The Crossing: Graduating From One Life To Another

The Crossing:

Graduating From One Life To Another

When the manna stopped,

I chose to plow the ground.

I complained about the manna

Now I want it to be found.

Tastes just like honey,

Shaped like a cumin seed;

God gave us tiny treasures

So we’d have all the food we need.

We depend on God

And His loving State of Grace.

Our fingers have been trained

To gather up this manna

At an easy going pace.

My heart was at peace.

I knew that it’d be there.

Suddenly my life has changed.

There’s no more of Heaven’s fare.

Our father’s saw the works of God

In Egypt and the Sea

His Might Hand delivered them

And they walked along with me.

They died a while back

And are buried in the sand.

Because they disobeyed the LORD

They’re not with me in His Land.

Joshua took me in when my heart was all alone

Now I could live with him until I was full grown

We crossed the Jordan just yesterday at dawn.

With dusty feet we trekked across

Where the wind of God had gone.

Joshua said it happened

That way just once before.

We gathered up some stones ’cause

It won’t happen that way any more.

Today I make a Pact with God

A promise called a covenant.

My part is to be good and faithful

God’s… to do the things I can’t.

With the LORD of Heaven

I have a brand new start

I will change my body

He will change my heart.

Egypt has no hold on me,

My sins are washed away.

I’m clean before our One and Only

Who delivered us that day.

We celebrate the fact of love

And that He let us live.

He must be really cool

To plan a party just like this.

It’s supposed to last a week

And there’s not a thing to do.

I like to rest from working.

I like to play really fun games too.

It’s not a solemn service

When we’re shushed and people frown

There’s lots of food

With great big fires.

We get to dance around.

We celebrate creation

And the day God gave us rest

With all this hard work farming

I think I like this party best.

We will celebrate the harvest

and the time we had to wait.

When God provided for us all

Every child had food upon their plate.

We count, we wave, we BBQ

The poor and strangers

are called to party with us too

We celebrate the trumpet blasts

That call us to believe

To clean our hearts like His

And follow where He leads.

We celebrate the tents we used

To remember how we lived

Being ready for His call,

What we ate, and what we did.

Everything was portable

We did not pack too much

Everything was doable

For carrying and such

From the time we left our slavery

To the time that we moved here

Many things have happened

Sometimes dances, sometimes tears

Change is bound to happen

If we move into His Land

Living where He tells us

Together as He planned

Today I planned to gather manna

Each day like the one before

As I went out to work with friends

I discovered there was no more.

The call to fight had not been sounded.

There was no trumpet tune.

But something big had changed today

Fires were kindled before the heat of noon.

There were sit down meals and snacks

From the produce of the Land.

Unleavened bread and roasted grain,

But no manna for my hand.

In this time of transition after graduation and before you enter that long awaited career,

Teach yourself to celebrate God’s care of you during your transition, your Crossing. The crossing has a starting and a stopping. There will come a time when He will allow you to “feed” yourself, a time of change. That growth is a good thing and necessary for continuing on in His service…In His Land.

May God bless you and guard you

May He make His face to shine upon you

And be gracious to you,

May He turn His countenance toward you

And grant you peace.

God’s Chosen Instrument: My Son

My Son

You are the instrument God has chosen to play.

He put you together in a very special way.

He carved your shape with a knowing hand.

There is no other like you in all the land.

Made to last with a thick protective coat,

Each string is strung to sing its own special note.

The pressure of His fingers firm upon your heart,

‘Tis Love’s tender melody, God’s wonder working art.

Sometimes suffering  His pluck

Produces obedience with tears,

Guided by His Rod and Staff, God’s life in you we hear.

Producing harmony with each and every strike,

A symphony resolves that true musicians like.

Deeds of kindness pace the sheet’s top line

Efforts to be gracious, show His mercy, son of mine.

Submit to His instruction, move at His command,

These songs  He penned for you long before you had a strand.

Middle notes reflect respect, righteousness, redemption,

The rise and fall that comes to all

and chords in Him that strengthen.

Base notes build and hold a bold, infectious beat

I’m grateful for firm ground beneath our dancing feet.

When you’re a boy, you’ll have the strength to you need.

When you’re a man, a mission and in His wisdom lead.

When the Master’s musicality calls your heart to sing

That day, my son, you will be a very… very good king.

The Remnant

A remnant is a chosen few the King of Heaven sought,

Not a small discarded cloth hoping to be bought.

Common to these chosen is a trial they survived.
It does not mean that faith in God nor honor has revived.

When the awesome truth of God, by His wrath has been revealed,
Selected are the witnesses. Their proclamation sealed.
Revelation 11

The witness could be praising God in Heaven, or anguishing in hell.
What matters most is what he tells and that he tells it well
Luke 16:19-31

God reserved a remnant His zealous prophet did not know
He was amazed. Others obeyed – Oh! God was in control
1 Kings 19:13-18
Disciples came upon a teaching difficult but true
Most went away but the remnant said, “We believe in You.
John 6:6-71

Aw-Nah – affliction, testimony, witness, submission

(Chorus)

It is my awnah to proclaim – “God Most High!”

It is my awnah to testify – “God is higher than I.”

Without Him I am nothing

Neither good in any way

He is the … very breath… by which I say…

(Chorus)

It is my awnah to proclaim – “God Most High!”

It is my awnah to testify – “God is higher than I.”

Held up to Holy standards but I fall short of every one

I am not proud of what this wicked heart has done

(Chorus)

It is my awnah to proclaim – “God Most High!”

It is my awnah to testify – “God is higher than I.”

For my transgression restitution must be paid

For my sins Atonement must be made

(Chorus)

It is my awnah to proclaim – “God Most High!”

It is my awnah to testify – “God is higher than I.”

A spotless lamb has been prepared since the dawn of time

To bear my sins and cleanse this awful heart of mine

(Chorus)

It is my awnah to proclaim – “God Most High!”

It is my awnah to testify – “God is higher than I.”

(Bridge)

Redeemed! All Clean! Affliction is cast away.

Substituted. Sacrifice. Baptized with fire in a foul, rejected place

A place of blood, of covenant, of wonder working grace.

(Ending)

It is my awnah to proclaim – “God Most High!”

It is my awnah to testify – “God is higher than I.”

45 Philip *found Nathanael and *said to him, “We have found Him of whom Moses in the Law and also the Prophets wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” 46 Nathanael said to him, “Can any good thing come out of Nazareth?”Philip *said to him, “Come and see.”

Anniversary Waltz

I will never leave you

I will be your friend

I will not deceive you

On me you can depend

Let’s cry on God’s shoulder

When no one is around

See, we’ll both grow stronger

Our movements will astound

Hand-in-hand… shine Love’s light

So everyone can see

His joy, His peace, His love,

His perfect liberty.

Hope will be our holder

When others are around.

Now and when we’re older

His dance the victor’s sound.

13 If we are “out of our mind,” as some say, it is for God; if we are in our right mind, it is for you. 14 For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. 15 And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.

2 Corinthians 5:13-15

New International Version (NIV)

Father Not

Father not my will but thine be done.

Father not from earth, the heavenly ONE.

Father not of one but chosen few,

Father not your work but mine to do.

Father not seen by flesh and blood.

Father not daunted by fire nor flood.

Father not called my father in vain.

Father” not once but again and again.

How should we remember our father? How do you remember yours? Some give gifts on Father’s Day. Some light a candle. Some post on Face Book remembrances for the departed loved one. Some of us just cry for a bit.

A Hebrew word “remember” (Strong’s word 2142 – zākar) means ‘to be born male’ among other renderings of being reminded or made mention of. Males in the families typically carry the family name into the next generation.

We carry on the name of our father by being called by his surname. (Praise God that I do not have to become male to do that!!) Last names do have meanings and predominantly describe a clan’s work or behavior. Over the years, people would associate the children with the father’s reputation, health or illness, skills, abilities, preferences, tragedies or triumphs, wealth, poverty, strength or weakness, education, politics or religion.

Over several more years, individuality became king and carrying on the family name or restoring its honor was lost in a vast sea of ideologically strong willed but floundering children. One could almost say that association with the head of one’s childhood home in itself became the garbage of society hardly worth throwing into landfills.

Tragic.

It is curious that children have a way of promoting remembrance. The way mom did this and dad does that show up in our children without our permission and cause us to remember. Sometimes those are good things and sometimes not. Whichever the case, we are transported immediately and whatever went around has come around again …to roost.

It sounds like I am advocating the restoration of the father-child relationship. To be sure, that was a task given to Elijah and necessary  to prepare the way for the LORD. I am not doing that here.

Jesus says to call no man “father”.  Why? You already have one. ONE and only one. My personal sorrow turned to joy because of this one important family realignment.

So I am advocating a return to honoring our heavenly Father properly not merely restoring broken earthly relationship. Earthly restoration may happen in the process. Honestly, for some, that never happens.

As a part of Yahweh’s family, He alone takes that Father role in your life. He provides. He teaches. He guides. He rewards. He corrects. He inflicts punishment. He comforts and restores. He fights for you. He challenges you to be excellent.

We do not have a BBQ in his honor one day out of the year. If He is relegated to even one day’s respect per week the relationship suffers. Rather, He expects 24/7 – 365 active, name bearing acknowledgment.

It remains a truth of community: the son does what the father does

To be sure, there are some things our Heavenly Father does that we cannot do — like judge the whole earth, send the Holy Spirit, save souls from damnation, or add time to our lives. However, if we do what he tells us to do with the strength and guidance He gives, that is enough. Our habitual obedience from one generation to the next brings Him the name-bearing honor He deserves.

Jesus’ Will Today

Jesus’ Will Today I pray

Perhaps Jesus will come today.

What will He find me doing?

Offering Him some prayers today.

What will He hear me saying?

Caring for those He sends my way

No matter who they are?

Asking Him

To help them

To obey His pull

Within their heart?

Instead…

Focused on the things I love

Success and doing each one well

I missed a chance to speak for others

On their behalf, faith and victory to propel.

In matters of life’s daily chores

Worn out and really sore

That in this day of His,

I forgot whose Name it was I bore.

Next time…

Will he find

That I’ve been kind

To those He calls His own?

Will I speak what is true and just?

Will I use His loving tone?

When life seems overwhelming

And circumstances crowd you out;

When squished is all you’re feeling,

And longing for an out;

Just remember

God gathers ALL the pieces.

He holds them in His hand.

Though they’re not

Where you might place them,

Together they look grand.

He chose them very carefully

And set them all just so.

The fragrance and the flowers

Bring Him much joy you know.
